I am responsible for the laboratory technical support team, which manages Geography and Environment’s laboratory suite and environmental monitoring and sampling equipment. In the Environmental Processes Laboratory, I support PLUS research directly with equipment for sedimentological and geochemical analyses. I also take care of the specialist field equipment used by the ground, including: borehole drilling equipment, various pieces of coring equipment and, of course, the boats!
Before joining Southampton and since graduating from Royal Holloway with a BSc in Geography with Environmental Archaeology and an MSc in Quaternary Science, I have worked in commercial environmental archaeology as well as on major international research projects, including: RESET: Response of humans to rapid environmental transitions; From Lucy to Language: the Archaeology of the Social Brain.
At Southampton I have also supported research in the field: peat and lake coring all over the British Isles and, more recently, sampling in Cambodia!
